Partnership with NIOSH Improves Safety & Risk Management Resources for Retailers
Loss Prevention Foundation and NIOSH sign a collaborative agreement
Charlotte, NC (Jan. 30, 2010)—The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and The Loss Prevention Foundation (LPF) recognize the benefits of a collaborative partnership to improve occupational health and safety conditions at retail and wholesale workplaces throughout the United States. Retailers benefit from this partnership because it brings valuable safety and risk management information right to their fingertips which improves education.
“LPF's objective in developing this partnership is to improve the quality and quantity of safety & risk management resources available to the retail loss prevention industry,” said Frank Johns, chairman of the Foundation and senior vice president Internal Audit, Asset Protection, Ethics and Compliance of A.C. Moore. “LPF is the direct connection to the retail loss prevention industry. LPF can help NIOSH improve its penetration of this knowledge into the industry.”
“Investing in the future generation of occupational safety and health professionals is critical for the health of our nation’s workers,” said NIOSH Director John Howard, MD. “We are pleased that this partnership will allow students of the retail loss prevention profession to benefit from the many resources that NIOSH and our partners have developed.”
NIOSH will share its knowledge resources with the LPF and join a host of distinguished academic institutions as strategic partners. NIOSH will have an opportunity to share its wealth of occupational safety and health information with the LPF and contribute to the training of LP professionals at the level of competency commensurate with the level of advancement in the certification and testing of the LP professionals.
“Both of our certification courses present information on safety, risk & health and this agreement will help to deliver consistent quality education to the retail industry. So often, loss prevention associates are responsible for administering the retail safety & health programs,” said Gene Smith, president, of The Loss Prevention Foundation. “This agreement will only help to enhance future safety, risk & health educational efforts.”
The LPQualified (LPQ) certification is designed to be a benchmark educational program for both entry level and individuals already within the profession, while the LPCertified (LPC) is designed as advanced education for loss prevention professionals interested in career advancement.
