LPQ EXAM Information
In order to receive the LPQualified (LPQ) designation you must take and pass the LPQ exam. The exam, which was developed by loss prevention professionals, is 100 questions in length. Each question is multiple choice and varies in degree of difficulty.
The exam is based on the college accredited LPQ courseware and focuses on the below three primary topic areas. Please note that you do not have to take the online course to take the exam, but it will aid in passing it.
Qualification Requirements
In order to qualify to take the LPQ exam, you must have graduated from high school or have achieved a GED equivalent.
Also you will not be eligible to receive your LPQ if you have been convicted of a felony or a general court marshal. Additionally, you will not be eligible if you have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude ("moral turpitude" means an offense that calls into question the integrity or judgment of the offender, such as fraud, bribery, corruption, theft, embezzlement, solicitation, etc). LPQ holders will loose their credentials should any of the above occur after certification.
LPQ Exam Process
The exam can be taken through-out the year. In general test facilities are open from Monday through Friday and some are open on Saturdays as well. The hours of operation are dependent upon each individual testing facility.
1) REGISTER WITH THE LPF:
Every LPQ exam must first be registered with the Loss Prevention Foundation (regardless of where the actual exam will be taken) prior to scheduling and paying through our exam partners.

2) PRE-SELECT TEST CENTER LOCATION:
It is advised to locate your desired test center location before you schedule and pay for your exam through one of our exam partners. The test center is the 'local' site where you will actually sit down and take your exam. If you cannot pre-select your test center location for one reason or another, our exam partners will be able to guide you at the time of scheduling and payment.
Please do not call the testing centers (your sit down exam site) to schedule or pay for your exam - only exam partners can do that.

3) SCHEDULE AND PAY WITH EXAM PARTNERS:
The LPQ Exam costs $250.00.
U.S. exam locations are scheduled and paid through our exam partner, Comira. Calls are accepted business days, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST. (800-947-4228)
When scheduling U.S. exam locations, PLEASE WAIT 2 TO 3 HOURS AFTER YOU REGISTER, TO CALL our exam partner, Comira, to pay for and schedule your exam.

4) BRING TO THE EXAM:
Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled exam time and allow 2 hours for the 100 question exam.
- bring photo identification with you. IF YOU FORGET TO BRING A VALID PHOTO ID YOU WILL BE TURNED AWAY, NO EXEPTIONS. (Most test centers only accept a driver's licence, passport or military ID card.)
- Applicants are allowed to use a “4 function calculator”. In the event you do not have one, the testing software has a built in calculator on the screen. You just have to click the button and use it. Cell phones are not permitted to be used as calculators.
- For those testing at U.S. locations, you need to bring your exam id. This was a number that was given to you at the time of LPF exam registration.
5) AFTER THE EXAM:
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY SCORE?
Your test results will be reported to you immediately upon submission of the exam answers to the test center. The result will be displayed on the test center's computer screen as either, "You have passed your LPQ Exam." or "You have not passed your LPQ exam."
HOW IS THE LPQ EXAM SCORED?
Your results will be based on the number of items that are answered correctly. There is no penalty for guessing.
HOW IS THE PASSING SCORE DETERMINED?
The Loss Prevention Foundation Exam Committee, an industry panel of subject matter experts who are representative of the loss prevention profession and of academia, has established the passing score for the LPQ exam.
These experts reviewed each exam question, evaluated the difficulty of the question, and made an assessment as to how a professional with fundamental competence would perform on each question. These assessments were then statistically analyzed to determine the passing score. This process was conducted under the supervision of Knapp & Associates International.
Your results are based on whether you meet or exceed the passing score as determined by the committee. Any and all disputed results are resolved by the LPF, exclusively. To take the exam is to agree to this condition.
WHAT INFORMATION WILL BE SENT TO ME ABOUT MY SCORE?
Since you only know at the exam center whether you passed or failed, more information will be mailed to you.
If you passed your exam, within 30 days, you will receive in the mail, a certification document, worthy of framing, as well as a congratulatory letter. You will also find your name listed on our web site under the LPQ Certified Professionals.
If you did not pass the examination, you will be sent your exact score along with a diagnostic report that shows how well you performed in each of the major categories. The diagnostic information is to assist you prepare for the next examination.
IF I FAIL WHEN CAN I RETEST?
If you'd like to take the exam again, you must wait a minimum of 30 days prior to re-registering with the LPF. You must also purchase the course if it was not previously purchased. In order to retake the exam please contact our office so we can make arrangements to give you a reduced rate of $200.
