LPQ EXAM

LPQ EXAM DESCRIPTION

In order to receive the LPQualified (LPQ) designation you must take and pass the LPQ exam. The exam, which was developed by loss prevention professionals, is 100 questions in length. Each question is multiple choice and varies in degree of difficulty. The exam is based on the LPQ courseware and focuses on three primary topic areas:

  • The Retail Environment,
  • Becoming A Successful Business Person
  • Loss Prevention Basics and Tools

It is important to note that you do not have to purchase the LPQ courseware to take the LPQ. The LPQ courseware is a study tool designed to aid those who wish to earn their LPQ.

LPQ EXAM SCHEDULE

Please note that the schedule below displays the windows that are open for individuals to take the exam. In general the facilities are open from Monday through Friday and some are open on Saturdays as well. The hours of operation are dependent upon each individual testing facility. After registering for the exam you will receive an 800 number within 24-48 hours to call and register for the exam. They will help you schedule a time and location for the exam date you have chosen. Please do not call the facility itself as they will not be able to schedule your appointment.

**Applicants are allowed to use a "4 function calculator". In the event you do not have one, the testing software has a built in calculator on the screen. You just have to click the button and use it. Cell phones are not permitted to be used as calculators.

EXAM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to qualify to take the LPQ exam, you must have graduated from high school or have achieved a GED equivalent. Also you are not eligible to receive your LPQ if you have been convicted of a felony or a general court marshal. Additionally, you will not be eligible if you have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude ("moral turpitude" means an offense that calls into question the integrity or judgment of the offender, such as fraud, bribery, corruption, theft, embezzlement, solicitation, etc). You will not be eligible to receive your LPQ certification if you have not met these requirements.

HOW IS THE LPQ EXAM SCORED?
Your results will be based on the number of items that are answered correctly. There is no penalty for guessing.

HOW IS THE PASSING SCORE DETERMINED?
The Loss Prevention Foundation Exam Committee, an industry panel of subject matter experts who are representative of the loss prevention profession and of academia, has established the passing score for the LPQ exam. These experts reviewed each exam question, evaluated the difficulty of the question, and made an assessment as to how a professional with fundamental competence would perform on each question. These assessments were then statistically analyzed to determine the passing score.

Your results are based on whether you meet or exceed the passing score as determined by the committee.

WHAT INFORMATION WILL BE SENT TO ME ABOUT MY SCORE?
The exam is designed to identify those who have achieved the basic level of knowledge from those who have not. If you pass the examination, you will receive only a score of PASS. No numeric score will be available. If you do not pass the examination, you will be sent your score along with a diagnostic report that shows how well you performed in each of the major categories. The diagnostic information is to assist you prepare for the next examination.

Should you fail the examination, you must wait a minimum of 30 days prior to registering for another administration.

September 13 - October 31, 2010 November 22-29, 2010


**Results will NOT be available at the test centers nor will results be provided over the phone or by fax.

A certification and congratulatory letter will be mailed to you during the time frame stated above.

WHAT DO I DO IF I FAIL? WHEN CAN I RETEST?
You must wait 30 days before attempting to retake the exam. You must purchase the course if it was not previously purchased. In order to retake the exam you must contact our office so we can make arrangements at a reduced rate. (LPQ $200-LPC $250)

EXAM REGISTRATION

In order to register for the exam you will need to complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out the registration form by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page.
  2. After you complete the form and submit it with your payment of $250.00 to take the exam, you will receive an email with phone number for a customer service representative at Comira. This email will not be immediate, so please be patient. If you register on a weekend you will receive your email on the following Monday.
  3. Once you have the phone number for Comira, please contact them to select the date you wish to take the exam and the location of your choice.
  4. On the date of your exam
    1. bring photo identification with you
    2. arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled exam time
    3. allow two hours for the 100 question exam
